To further promote the efficient utilization of cultivated land resources, solve the problems of idle river beach land and low output efficiency, and drive the quality and efficiency improvement of the agricultural industry, Jiete Jintian (Daming) Modern Agricultural Technology Service Center recently received a delegation of large-scale potato growers from Guyuan County. Centering on the core goal of "transforming river beach land into high-yield potato fields", the delegation conducted on-site soil and water quality testing, exchanged key planting techniques, and strived to promote the application of the "light loam soil" planting model on river beach land, helping idle river beach land transform into "high-yield fields" and "golden land", and broadening channels for agricultural production increase and farmers' income growth.
02 Scientific Interpretation: Core Conditions for Potatoes to Grow Well on River Beach Land
Potatoes have high requirements for soil conditions, preferring loose, breathable, organic-rich and well-watered soil environments. Such soil can ensure the normal expansion of tubers and facilitate agronomic operations such as intertillage, hilling, and water-fertilizer management. Practice has proved that as long as key links such as soil improvement and water-fertilizer regulation are accurately controlled, river beach land can fully meet the high-quality planting needs of potatoes, providing a scientific basis for the agricultural development of river beach land.
03 Empirical Evidence from Test Fields: Accurate Assessment of Planting Potential on River Beach Land
To scientifically evaluate the feasibility of potato cultivation on river beach land and surrounding plots, the project team selected 3 test fields for comprehensive testing, forming a detailed "physical examination report" to provide data support for the formulation of subsequent planting plans:
3.1 Former Pig Farm Plot
Covers an area of about 200 mu, with highly sandy soil, soil temperature of 11.9℃, humidity of 46%. The water quality meets drinking water standards and is free of salinization. 1 kilogram of soil samples were collected on-site and sent to the laboratory for comprehensive testing of organic matter, nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium content, pH value and medium and trace element indicators, providing basic data for the optimization of planting plans;
3.2 Former Forestry Bureau Seedling Station Plot
Covers an area of about 200 mu, with loose and slightly acidic soil, soil temperature of 9℃, humidity of 42%. The water quality is suitable for planting and free of salinization. Soil samples were collected simultaneously for a full set of indicator analysis to verify the stable-yield planting potential of this plot;
3.3 River Beach Plot
Water recession was just completed this year, with heavy clay soil, soil temperature of 10.7℃, humidity of 34%. Despite the shortcoming of soil texture, it is rich in medium and trace elements. After scientific improvement, it can successfully catch up with the planting season of early-maturing potatoes and has good high-yield potential.
04 Targeted Measures: Implementation Plan for Simple and Efficient Potato Cultivation on River Beach Land
The delegation visited Jiete Jintian's organic fertilizer production base on-site and participated in the Daming County Early Spring Potato Planting Technology Forum. Combining the test field detection data, a consensus was reached to formulate an integrated simple and efficient planting plan of "testing, improving, planting and managing". The specific measures are as follows:
- Scientific soil improvement to lay a solid foundation for planting. For heavy clay plots on river beach land, adopt the improvement model of "organic fertilizer + compound fertilizer", mixing 3-5 cubic meters of fully decomposed organic fertilizer per mu, combined with 20 kg of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer, effectively breaking soil compaction and improving soil air permeability and fertility;
- Optimal variety selection to improve planting benefits. Select early-maturing and high-quality varieties such as "Holland 7" and "Zaodabai". These varieties have short growth periods, low temperature resistance and good transportability, suitable for the planting environment of river beach land, and can achieve early market launch and seize business opportunities;
- Full-process trusteeship to lower planting thresholds. Implement a "one-stop trusteeship service" covering the entire process of sowing, drip irrigation, plant protection, harvesting, grading and sales, effectively reducing the planting burden on farmers, ensuring the income of growers, and promoting the effective implementation of technologies.
05 Promising Results: Technology Empowers High-Quality Development of River Beach Land Agriculture
According to growers' calculations, corn was the main crop planted on river beach land in the past, with a yield of about 1000 jin per mu; after adopting the simple and efficient potato planting model of this project, the expected yield per mu can be doubled. Early-maturing potatoes can be put on the market at the end of May, with a field price 0.4 yuan per jin higher than corn, increasing the income per mu by more than 800 yuan. In addition, with the guarantee of full-process technical guidance, the loss rate of diseases, pests and weeds can be reduced by 30%, truly achieving "both increased production and income".
To ensure the effectiveness of project implementation, Jiete Jintian has clearly promised: if growers strictly implement the plan, the guaranteed potato yield per mu is 2.5 tons, and additional rewards will be given at market prices for the excess part. Next, the project team will continue to track the growth of the 3 test fields, accurately record the growth curves, and use data to verify the feasibility and replicability of the simple and efficient potato planting model on river beach land, providing promotable and referable practical experience for the development of river beach land resources and the quality and efficiency improvement of the agricultural industry in the province, helping the revitalization of rural industries.
